When I went to elementary school we did not have Art class or an Art teacher. But, I have always been interested in art and design so I took classes in the summer through the city. I really enjoyed the classes and the excitement I felt at getting to work with the materials like yarn, clay, and paint. My mind would whirl with intrigue at what we would be creating each time. We made some large interesting weavings using lots of bright colors and some clay bowls. I also remember that I had to ride my bike about eight miles to the class and then attempt to ride home with my creations. In elementary school we had the art lady come and tell us about famous paintings. I loved sitting on the floor in the hall of the elementary school and gazing at those incredible works of art. One of the biggest art events I was asked to take part of in elementary school along with one of my friends was to paint the Presidential Physical Fitness seal that would hang on the wall of the school. I was very proud to see it displayed. I think every Art room should be overflowing with kids' masterpieces!
This was a group project where we were given a box of blocks and were asked to use all of the blocks to make a design. Our group literally jumped up into action and each started playing with their own design. Shortly after that all the members started collaborating and feeding off each others visions and it grew it this swirling inventive creation using cool colors in the center and warm colors on the outside ring. I liked this project because everyone was a part of the creation. We used something from everyone so it was a Win-Win all the way around. It was a great way to meet and get to know the people at our table.
